Al Buraimi Governorate is located in the northwest corner of the Sultanate along the borders with the United Arab Emirates. It was previously known as Wilayat Al Buraymi as part of Al Dhahirah Region until Royal Decree No. 108/2006 AD was issued on the 22nd of Ramadan in the year 1427 AH. Corresponding to October 15, 2006 AD, which stipulated the establishment of a governorate under the name of Al-Buraimi Governorate, and it also includes the states of Al-Buraimi, Mahdah, and Al-Sunaina.

The center of the governorate is Al-Buraimi, and the population of the governorate is (72,917) people according to the results of the general census of population, housing and establishments for the year 2010 AD, and (107,501) people according to the statistics of the National Center for Statistics and Information for the month of July 2016 AD, and the number of elected members of the Municipal Council of Al-Buraimi Governorate is (8) members They represent the various states of the governorate.

Al Buraimi Governorate is famous for its strategic and vital commercial location, as it is located in the northwest of the Sultanate, and because of its elevation above sea level and the availability of water (wadis and falajs) in it, it was a path for trade and was characterized by the cultivation of wheat, palm trees and fruits.
